Faces of Kibera is a New York State nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping the rising number of orphans in Kibera, Kenya. Kibera is the largest slum in East Africa. With an estimated one million people concentrated in one square mile, the living conditions in Kibera are desperate for all, and particularly difficult for the children. Our goal is to push back against this tide of poverty, illness and deprivation by creating and supporting a community-based facility outside of Kibera to provide care, education and services to the orphans of Kibera. Channing Tatum may have battled evil ninjas (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Celtic tribesmen (The Eagle) on screen, but in real life, all it takes is an intense skinny lady to terrify the 32-year-old.
In particular, one intense skinny lady: his costar in upcoming film The Bitter Pill, Rooney Mara.
“She’s the most mousy and terrifying person I’ve ever met,” Tatum told E! News of his experience working with the The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star. “She’s such a little introvert.”
But, like all actors who have to occasionally kick-ass on the big screen, Tatum is a pro at hiding his internal fright and, having gotten to know the actress a bit better, now claims Mara is “also the sweetest little thing you’ve ever met.”
In the Steven Soderbergh-directed Bitter Pill, Tatum plays a stockbroker who returns home after serving four years in prison for a white collar crime to find his wife (Mara) suffering from depression.
“Rooney can get this glazed over like look in her eyes that you’re like, ‘Oh, God—I hope I never see that coming my way,'” Tatum says of his 27-year-old costar. “She’s truly one of the most fabulous actresses. She has a skill set that I have never seen with the actresses I’ve worked with. Everybody’s different and have the things that they’re strong at, but she’s special, for sure.”
Asked by E! whether we’ll have the pleasure of seeing Mara’s glazed-over look during the couple’s onscreen sex scenes, the upcoming star of Magic Mike quipped, “There will be hot scenes in The Bitter Pill—during the end credits!”

Rooney Mara is attached to star in a big-screen adaptation of Colm Toibin’s best-selling novel Brooklyn penned by British novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby.
Mara will play the lead in Toibin’s story set in Brooklyn and Ireland in the early 1950s about a young woman torn between her family in Ireland and the American who wins her heart.
The project is being put together by the team that brought audiences the Carey Mulligan-led An Education, with producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey formalizing their working relationship in Posey’s Wildgaze Films.
Dwyer joins Posey’s Wildgaze Films as a partner while novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby, who is also Posey’s husband, will “take a hands off role” in the new look set-up. • Read full story »

After a busy week, you’ll excuse Rooney Mara‘s agents if they turn off their cell phones and have a much earned nap. In the last few days the actress has signed on to replace Carey Mulligan in Spike Jonze’s upcoming film, and taken a lead role in the upcoming adaptation of Colm Toibin‘s “Brooklyn.” And now to close off the week, she’s landed another gig that will see her star opposite two of our favorite actors.
Deadline reports that Mara will join Ben Foster and Casey Affleck in “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.” Set to be written and directed by David Lowery, the project was part of last summer’s Creative Producing Labs and Creative Producing Summit at Sundance, and it boasts a pretty great premise. Set in the 1970s, the film tells the story of an outlaw who escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas countryside to reunite with his wife and the daughter he never met. On his journey the past begins to catch up with him.
Lowery made an impression on the festival circuit last year with his short film “Pioneer” (trailer below) which won the 2011 Grand Jury Award at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival. And clearly, he has cooked up something compelling here to attract such a cast. No word yet on when lensing might take place not only because of Mara’s packed schedule, but also due to the fact that financing is still being lined up. But with that cast, financiers shouldn’t be too hard to find. Fun fact: Toby Hallbrooks, one of the producers on the film, was once a member of The Polyphonic Spree.
