Faces of Kibera is a New York State nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping the rising number of orphans in Kibera, Kenya. Kibera is the largest slum in East Africa. With an estimated one million people concentrated in one square mile, the living conditions in Kibera are desperate for all, and particularly difficult for the children. Our goal is to push back against this tide of poverty, illness and deprivation by creating and supporting a community-based facility outside of Kibera to provide care, education and services to the orphans of Kibera. THE Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will stage a tribute to the punk movement next May. The Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition will be launched on May 6 2013 at the annual Costume Institute Gala – otherwise known as the Met Ball. The installation, which will be open to the public from May 9 to August 11, will focus on haute couture and ready-to-wear creations inspired by the punk era. Rooney Mara, Riccardo Tisci, Anna Wintour and Lauren Santo Domingo will act as co-chairs for the exhibition. “Punk broke all the rules when it came to fashion, and everything became possible after punk,” said Andrew Bolton, Costume Institute curator. “Its impact on high fashion became so enormous, and continues at the same time.” The exhibition will feature over 100 Punk-influenced pieces of both men’s and women’s fashion, including the iconic Gianni Versace safety-pin dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley back in 1994. “Primarily the biggest legacy is DIY and deconstruction,” said Bolton. “Punk has had one of the biggest influences on fashion over the last 30 years, and sometimes people wear punk without even realising it.” Other designers to be featured in the exhibition include Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang – to name but a few. We can’t wait to see what this means for the red carpet dresses at the 2013 Met Ball. Source: Vogue UK written by Grace on August 23, 2012 When it was first announced that Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig would be starring in David Fincher’s English language remake of the Swedish hit THE GIRL WITH THEDRAGON TATTOO, the first question on everyone’s mind was when/if they would start filming the sequels. The original trilogy starred Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist and covered all three of Stieg Larsson’s novels. Although the original films were an international sensation, Fincher’s film didn’t inspire the obsession in America that the Swedish version did around the world. Personally, I thought it was fantastic and was one of my favorite films of the year, but the only thing that matters these days is a film’s box office return and in that regard, $102 million, although successful, is on the border as to whether or not a sequel is a done deal. But for those of you that are looking forward to seeing Rooney Mara back in action as Lisbeth Salander, you’re in luck.  EW is reporting that screenwriter Steven Zaillian is hard at work on the script for THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and the film might see the light of day in 2014. To date, this is the best indication we’ve gotten that Sony will move forward with the sequel. And don’t worry about Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig; both of them are already signed on for the trilogy. The only question is whether or not David Fincher will return to the director’s chair.
