Rooney Mara: I’m nothing like my sister

Rooney Mara feels like the “odd sister” when compared to her sibling.

Rooney and Kate Mara are both actresses. Kate has starred in movies such as 127 Hours and Iron Man 2, and Rooney is getting ready for the release of her latest film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Despite taking on the same careers, Rooney claims they don’t try and compete with one another.

“We’re so different that there’s never been a competitiveness between us in work,” said in an interview with Allure magazine. “She is probably much more likable than I am. She’s really outgoing and fun. I’m definitely more of the odd sister.”

The actress plays Lisbeth Salander in her new film. The story is based on the Swedish novel of the same name and features many nude scenes.

Rooney quickly accepted that this was a necessary part of her job.

“Nudity is such a huge part of the character in the book, so I never thought twice about it. There was no time for hesitation,” she said. “I didn’t have time to second-guess anything or be scared; I just showed up and was comfortable.”

Rooney had to go through quite a transformation to portray the character.

The star had her hair cut and dyed, her eyebrows were shaved and she slimmed down her already trim figure.

“People always ask, ‘Were you crying when they cut your hair?’ And it didn’t freak me out at all. I was really happy to do it,” she revealed.

Rooney also made the drastic decision to get her nipple pierced for the role.

Although it wasn’t required she felt it was important to Lisbeth’s character.

“I’m naked quite a lot in the movie, and I thought, she has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie],” she explained. “Because of all the tattoos and the make-up and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get – a necessary one to get.”
